Exam planner & results

Plan which CGI module you'll sit at which sitting, record your grade and score, and manage your exam bookings in CLIP Learn's personal exam planner.

The My exams page is your personal exam planner. CGI (the Chartered Governance Institute) sets and marks the actual exams — CLIP Learn does not run them. This page lets you plan which module you intend to sit at which CGI sitting, and record your own result once it comes through. Reach it from the Exams link in the top navigation (or the exam shortcut on your dashboard), which opens /app/exams.

Who can use this page

The exam planner is for learners only (the CANDIDATE role). If you are a member of faculty or staff, opening this page sends you to your faculty area instead — there is no staff view of the planner.

What the page shows

The page has two sections stacked vertically:

  1. Plan an exam — a short form to add a module-and-sitting to your plan.
  2. My exam bookings & results — a table of everything you have planned, with its status and result.

All dates are shown in your own timezone using the British format day month year (for example, 4 Jun 2026). Your timezone comes from your profile; if none is set, the platform default is used.

What counts as a "module"

The Module dropdown lists only the courses you are currently enrolled in. An enrolment counts as current if it has no expiry date or its expiry date is still in the future. Expired enrolments do not appear, so you cannot plan an exam for a module you no longer have access to.

What counts as a "sitting"

A sitting is a CGI exam window (the programme runs two a year — typically June and November). Sittings are created for your organisation by an administrator; you cannot add one yourself. The Sitting dropdown lists only sittings that:

  • belong to your organisation (tenant), and
  • have an exam date in the future (past sittings are hidden), ordered by exam date, soonest first.

LabelThe name you pick from, e.g. June 2026Set by your administrator when the sitting is created
Exam dateThe approximate exam date / windowShown in the bookings table; used to sort both dropdown and table
Entry closeThe CGI entry deadlineStored against the sitting but not shown on this page — check MyCG / CGI directly for the real cut-off

This planner does not book your CGI exam

Adding a module to your plan here is a personal note for your own tracking. It does not register you with CGI, does not pay any entry fee, and does not tell CGI anything. You must still enter for the exam through CGI / MyCG yourself, and mind the real entry-close deadline.

Planning a module against a sitting

In the Plan an exam box, choose the Module you intend to sit. The list contains only your currently enrolled modules.

Choose the Sitting — the CGI window you plan to sit it at. Only upcoming sittings for your organisation appear.

Select Add to my plan. The booking appears in the My exam bookings & results table below with the status Planned.

Both fields are required — you cannot submit with either left blank.

Duplicate plans are harmless. Each plan is unique per module-and-sitting combination. If you add the same module at the same sitting twice, nothing new is created and no error is shown — the existing plan simply stays as it is. To plan the same module at a different sitting, that is a separate, allowed plan.

The bookings table

Each row in My exam bookings & results shows one planned exam:

ColumnWhat it shows
ModuleThe module (course) title
SittingThe sitting label, e.g. November 2026
Exam dateThe sitting's exam date, in your timezone
StatusPlanned or Result in (see below)
ResultThe grade and score, or an inline form to record one
(last column)A Remove link

Rows are ordered by the sitting's exam date, soonest first.

Statuses

A booking carries one of these statuses:

StatusBadge shownMeaning
PLANNEDPlanned (brand-coloured badge)You have planned this exam but not yet recorded a result. This is the status every new plan starts in.
RESULTResult in (grey badge)You have recorded a result for this booking.

Note on the `SAT` status

The underlying data model also allows a SAT status (exam sat, awaiting result), but the planner does not use or set it — the page only ever moves a booking from Planned to Result in. In practice you will only see those two states.

Recording a result

Once your CGI result is out, record it yourself against the booking. You do this inline in the Result column of a Planned row.

Find the row for the module and sitting in the bookings table. While it is unrecorded it shows a small Record… dropdown and a % box.

Choose the grade from the dropdown: Pass, Merit, Distinction, or Fail. This is required.

Optionally type your score as a whole-number percentage in the % box. Leave it blank if you do not know or do not want to record a mark.

Select Save. The row's status changes to Result in and the grade (with the score, if given) is shown as a coloured badge.

Result fields

FieldWhat it doesLimits / defaults
Grade (result)The outcome you achievedRequired. One of PASS, MERIT, DISTINCTION, FAIL. Anything else is rejected and nothing is saved.
Score (score)Your exam mark as a percentageOptional. Whole number, clamped to the range 0100. A value below 0 becomes 0; above 100 becomes 100. Left blank, no score is stored.

How recorded results look

Once saved, the result shows as a badge: green for PASS, MERIT, and DISTINCTION; red for FAIL. If you recorded a score, it appears after the grade, for example MERIT · 68%. With no score, only the grade shows.

Results are self-recorded

This grade is something you enter yourself for your own tracking — it is not verified against CGI. The planner takes your word for it. Recording a result does not affect your module marks, assignments, or essay assessments elsewhere in CLIP Learn.

Recording replaces the inline form with the badge. The page does not currently offer an in-place "edit result" control on a row that already has a result — if you recorded the wrong grade, remove the booking and add it again (see below).

Removing a booking

Each row has a Remove link on the right (it turns red on hover).

Select Remove on the row you want to delete.

The booking is deleted immediately and disappears from the table.

Remove deletes everything on that row

Removing a booking deletes the whole plan, including any result and score you recorded against it. There is no undo and no confirmation prompt. If you removed one by mistake, simply plan it again from the Plan an exam form (and re-enter the result if it had one).

Permissions and safety

Every action on this page is scoped to you:

  • You can only plan a module you are actively enrolled in, at a sitting that belongs to your organisation.
  • You can only record a result on, or remove, your own bookings — the actions never touch another learner's plans.
  • Faculty and staff cannot see or use this planner; it redirects them away.
